Robert May

Robert May was born in Wantage, Oxfordshire, in 1951 but now lives and works on the South coast of England as an animal artist.

Robert spent approximately 15 years as a graphic artist, painting animal and landscape studies in his spare time, which were sold through local galleries. In 1983, he decided to concentrate on the Fine Art aspect and was subsequently commissioned to paint a range of greeting card designs depicting dogs. These proved to be very popular and are still on sale today.

This success led to further commissions for a variety of animal subjects including cats, horses, birds and wildlife subjects, many of which were also reproduced as greeting cards and prints.

Robert is self-taught and his work incorporates a high degree of detail, which is achieved by use of gouache watercolor or oils/acrylics, and the life-like quality often captivates collectors. He now specializes in canine subjects and is currently publishing his own work, which is sold in many countries throughout the world.
