“I want to draw things and tell stories,” a seven-year-old Lisa Haight told her dad with certainty. That’s what she wanted to be when she grew up. Before her career as an artist began, Haight taught K-8 Art for more than a decade. On the first day of school in 2018, she arrived home and announced that this was her “last first day.”
Since then, Haight has created a whimsical, nostalgic, and sometimes provocative body of work. A creative conjurer, she uses art and storytelling to forge connections to the world around her. Believing a full story can be told in a single image, her vignettes aim to strike an emotion in the viewer.
When she’s not in her studio, Lisa can be found reading, crocheting, or on a river kayaking with her partner, Shiloh, and their two grown children. She currently lives in Portland, Oregon.
